The Maranges appellation, classified as an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) since 1988, is located at the southern extremity of the Burgundy region, in the heart of the Côtes de Beaune vineyards. Comprising the communes of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges, and Sampigny-lès-Maranges, this appellation covers approximately 170 hectares of vineyards, producing predominantly red wines from the Pinot Noir grape variety, alongside a small fraction of white wines based on Chardonnay.
Maranges red wines are distinguished by their deep ruby colour and fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, often complemented by spicy and floral notes. On the palate, they reveal an elegant structure with well-present yet silky tannins, offering an ageing potential of 5 to 10 years. The less common white wines are valued for their freshness and delicate aromas of citrus and white flowers.
For wine enthusiasts and cellar managers, Maranges is an appellation worth discovering and monitoring, both for the quality of its wines and their exceptional value for money. Incorporating Maranges wines into a wine cellar can enrich any Burgundy collection, offering treasures that will delight the most discerning palates.
