Matarromera Crianza 2019 is an expressive red wine from the prestigious Ribera del Duero DO in Castille and León, Spain. This cuvée is crafted predominantly from the Tempranillo grape, locally called Tinta del País, which thrives in this region. The 2019 vintage benefited from favourable climatic conditions, yielding grapes with optimal ripeness and concentration. Crianza indicates that the wine has enjoyed a minimum of 12 months ageing in oak barrels, followed by further maturation in bottle. This process imparts subtle notes of vanilla and spice, while preserving the wine’s vibrant fruit character—expect aromas of ripe blackberry, plum, black cherry, and undertones of tobacco and cocoa, supported by firm yet polished tannins and a lingering finish.
The Ribera del Duero region stretches along the Duero River, characterised by high-altitude vineyards typically between 700 and 900 metres above sea level. The continental climate here brings hot, dry summers and very cold winters, with significant day-night temperature variation that helps retain acidity in the grapes and develop complexity. The soils are diverse, composed of chalk, clay, silt and gravel, which combine to create a unique mineral profile in the wines. Historically, Ribera del Duero has roots dating back to Roman times, but it is in the past four decades that it has gained international recognition for robust, ageworthy red wines.

Regional cuisine like Castilla y León roast lamb (lechazo asado) is a classic that echoes the depth and earthiness of the wine.
