Viniou Reviews

Vinho Da Feicha is a sparkling white wine produced under the Vinho Verde DOC, a celebrated appellation from northern Portugal. As a non-vintage cuvée, this brut wine is crafted to emphasise freshness and consistency across bottlings rather than the singular expression of a specific harvest year. The blend typically employs the region’s indigenous grape varieties, such as Loureiro, Arinto (locally known as Pedernã), and Trajadura, which are prized for their lively acidity and delicate aromatics. Sparkling Vinho Verde is created using a secondary fermentation to develop its fine effervescence, maintaining a modest alcohol content and a crisp, bright flavour profile evocative of green apples, citrus, and subtle floral notes.

The Vinho Verde region is nestled in northwestern Portugal, benefitting from a cool, Atlantic-influenced climate that encourages slow grape ripening and preserves freshness and aromatic intensity. The area is characterised by its granitic soils, which provide excellent drainage and contribute mineral nuances to the wines. Historically, Vinho Verde has been produced in the Minho, an area renowned for its lush landscapes and a winemaking heritage dating back centuries, making these wines distinctive for their youthful exuberance and gentle spritz, which was traditionally natural due to malolactic fermentation in bottle.

This style of sparkling white wine pairs beautifully with fresh seafood, a nod to the coastal Portuguese cuisine. Consider serving it alongside dishes like grilled sardines, prawn rice, clams “à Bulhão Pato”, or a classic codfish salad. Its vibrant acidity and light mousse also make it an excellent partner for sushi, tempura, or even fried chicken, cutting through richness and refreshing the palate.

For the best tasting experience, serve Vinho Da Feicha brut well chilled, ideally between 6-8°C. Pour into fluted sparkling wine glasses to appreciate the lively bubbles and aromatic finesse. Enjoy its youthful charm within a year or two of purchase, as these wines are intended for immediate pleasure rather than cellaring.
