Tedeschi’s “La Fabriseria” 2011 is an esteemed red blend from the Veneto region, a testament to the esteemed winemaking tradition of the Tedeschi family. This cuvée, crafted in a DOC territory, unites indigenous grape varieties typical to the region – likely Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella, complemented perhaps by a hint of Oseleta or other local grapes. The 2011 vintage benefited from a balanced growing season, with adequate sunshine and just enough rainfall to preserve acidity and structure in the grapes. Ageing often takes place in a combination of stainless steel and large oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its complex aromatic profile while retaining freshness and elegance.
The Veneto, nestled in the northeast of Italy, is celebrated for its undulating hills, varied microclimates, and diverse terroirs. Limestone-rich and clay soils in the heartland ensure optimal water retention and mineral expression in the wines. The temperate climate, influenced by both the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, provides excellent conditions for slow, even ripening – essential for achieving both aromatic intensity and balance. With a rich viticultural history rooted in Roman times, Veneto has mastered the art of crafting intense yet graceful reds that can age beautifully.
“La Fabriseria” 2011 yields a deep ruby hue and reveals an expressive bouquet of ripe cherries, black plums, dried herbs, sweet spices, and understated notes of vanilla, derived from its careful maturation. On the palate, expect concentrated fruit, refined tannins, a lively backbone, and a lingering, harmonious finish.
For food pairings, this wine shines alongside classic Venetian dishes such as braised beef with Amarone sauce, risotto all’Amarone, or roasted veal. It also suits game birds, wild mushroom polenta, or mature cheeses like Asiago d’Allevo – the wine’s structure and aromatic depth enhance the umami and savoury elements of such dishes.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for at least an hour to let it open up fully. Serve at around 17-18°C to appreciate its full aromatic potential and supple texture. This bottle is approaching its peak, offering immense pleasure now but will continue to evolve for a few more years in a proper cellar.
