The 2022 Cuvée Aristos from Eisacktaler Kellerei - Cantina Valle Isarco is a white wine from Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC, located in the northernmost part of Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region. This cuvée showcases the precision and vibrancy that are hallmarks of the area, blending local white grape varieties (such as Sylvaner, Pinot Grigio, Müller-Thurgau, and sometimes Kerner, depending on the vintage) to create a wine with aromatic complexity, fresh acidity, and delicate minerality. The 2022 vintage, marked by a cool and balanced growing season, gives this wine a particularly lively and pure expression. Fermentation and aging are often conducted in temperature-controlled stainless steel to preserve the natural freshness and varietal character, with some batches occasionally seeing brief maturation on fine lees to enhance texture and mouthfeel.
Valle Isarco, or Eisacktal in German, is a slender valley running from Bressanone towards Bolzano. It lies at the intersection of Alpine and Mediterranean climates, resulting in pronounced temperature differences between day and night — ideal conditions for retaining acid and aromatic definition in white wines. The soils are typically stony and mineral-rich, enhancing the wines’ clarity and subtle saline notes. With a long tradition of multi-ethnic viticulture dating back to the Middle Ages, this region is renowned for producing some of Italy’s most distinctive and age-worthy whites, shaped by both its unique geology and its cool, mountain climate.
Cuvée Aristos is a versatile food partner. Its crisp acidity and mineral drive pair beautifully with freshwater fish such as trout or char, or with classic South Tyrolean specialities like speck or Knödel (bread dumplings) with herbed butter. It complements light pasta dishes, asparagus risotto, and mild Alpine cheeses, as well as vegetable quiches and Mediterranean seafood salads for a broader pairing.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine well chilled at 8-10°C. A medium-sized white wine glass will allow its aromatic layers to unfold. If possible, open the bottle ten minutes before pouring to let the bouquet fully awaken. This vintage can be enjoyed now but also benefits from a year or two in the cellar to further integrate its components.
