Argiano Solengo 2019 is a remarkable red wine from the famed Argiano estate in Tuscany, Italy. This cuvée is a modern "Super Tuscan," crafted from a sophisticated blend of Bordeaux grape varieties—typically Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. The 2019 vintage benefits from a growing season marked by a mild spring, followed by a warm and balanced summer, allowing gradual ripening and excellent concentration in the grapes. Fermentation generally takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, before the wine is aged in French oak barriques for about 18 months, enhancing structure and complexity. In the glass, Solengo offers a deep ruby colour with an expressive bouquet of ripe blackberries, plum, balsamic notes, spicy undertones, and a subtle hint of tobacco and chocolate from the oak.
Tuscany, the home of Argiano, is one of Italy’s most celebrated wine regions, with a history dating back centuries. The region's rolling hills are composed mainly of marl, limestone, and clay soils, which lend a distinctive minerality and elegance to the wines. The Mediterranean climate, with warm days and cool nights, encourages slow, even ripening, preserving acidity and aromatic freshness. The heritage of innovation in Tuscany, especially with the advent of Super Tuscans, brought international varieties into blends that previously relied on Sangiovese, resulting in wines of both tradition and modern flair.
Solengo 2019, with its full body, supple tannins, and layered complexity, pairs beautifully with robust dishes. Tuscan classics such as bistecca alla fiorentina (T-bone steak) highlight the wine’s depth, while slow-braised beef, wild boar ragù with pappardelle, or aged pecorino cheese are all excellent companions. Rich, tomato-based dishes and grilled lamb also complement the wine’s structure and aromatic personality.
For optimal enjoyment, decant Solengo 2019 for an hour before serving, and enjoy at a temperature between 16-18°C. This allows the wine to fully express its aromatic depth and silky texture, providing a memorable tasting experience.
