Les Forts de Latour 2010 is the second wine of the prestigious Château Latour in the Pauillac appellation, located within Bordeaux’s renowned Médoc region. While specific cépages are not always formally disclosed for every vintage and cuvée, the style of Pauillac reds, especially from Latour, tends to favour Cabernet Sauvignon in dominance, complemented by varying proportions of Merlot and, on occasion, touches of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The 2010 vintage is celebrated throughout Bordeaux for its ideal balance of power and precision, producing wines that are structured, intensely coloured, and built for considerable ageing. The vinification at Latour focuses on control and refinement, yielding a wine of impressive depth and clarity with ripe blackcurrant, cedar, and graphite aromas, supported by firm tannins and a long, persistent finish.
Pauillac, nestled on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, is marked by well-drained gravelly soils that have become synonymous with some of the greatest and most ageworthy Bordeaux wines. The climate here is tempered by the nearby Atlantic, offering mild winters and warm summers, which helps to achieve optimal ripeness in the grapes while preserving freshness and structure. This terroir imparts the distinctive Pauillac character of refined power, aromatic complexity, and considerable longevity, a signature that Les Forts de Latour expertly expresses year after year. The history of Château Latour and its terroir stretches back centuries, adding a sense of tradition and continuity to every bottle.
With its structured yet supple profile, Les Forts de Latour 2010 makes an excellent companion to robust dishes. Pair it with classic grilled or roasted lamb, perhaps with a rosemary jus, or beef in Bordelaise sauce. Regionally inspired dishes like duck breast with wild mushrooms or a rich cassoulet highlight the wine’s earthy undertones. For a cheese course, opt for aged Comté or a creamy Saint-Nectaire to complement its depth and finesse.
For the best experience, decant the wine for at least two hours before serving to allow its intricate aromas and flavours to open up fully. Serve at 16-18°C, and enjoy alongside good company and hearty fare – this is a wine to savour both now and over the next decade.
