Château Lynch-Bages 2022 is a Grand Cru Classé from the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, renowned for producing some of the world's finest red wines. The estate typically crafts its wine from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which imparts robust structure, deep colour and remarkable ageing potential, complemented by Merlot for suppleness and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot adding complexity and aromatic lift. The 2022 vintage is marked by concentrated fruit and ripe tannins, characteristic of a warm and sunny growing season. On the nose, expect blackcurrant, blackberry and subtle cedar, with hints of graphite, tobacco and violets emerging as the wine opens. The palate is full-bodied, with a harmonious balance between muscular tannins and fresh acidity, leading to a persistent, elegant finish.
Pauillac sits at the heart of the Médoc region on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, bordered by the Gironde estuary. The area's well-drained gravel soils are highly favourable to Cabernet Sauvignon, allowing deep root penetration and optimal ripening. This part of Bordeaux benefits from a temperate maritime climate, with the estuary moderating extreme temperatures and reducing the risk of frost. Over centuries, Pauillac has established a global reputation for producing wines of depth, power and longevity, notably home to three of the five Bordeaux First Growths and a number of prestigious Châteaux, including Lynch-Bages with its signature style of generosity and intensity.
To complement the depth and structure of Château Lynch-Bages 2022, consider serving it alongside traditional dishes such as entrecôte à la bordelaise—grilled rib steak in a red wine and shallot sauce—or a rack of lamb with rosemary and garlic. For a more local pairing, try duck breast (magret de canard), as the wine’s tannins will balance the rich, savoury meat. Mature cheeses such as aged Comté or Ossau-Iraty also make excellent partners, as do wild game and mushroom-based dishes.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine at least two hours before serving to allow full expression of its complex aromas and flavours. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C. With its firm backbone and seductive fruit, this Pauillac will develop beautifully over the next decade or more if cellared under proper conditions.
