The Oreno 2016 by Tenuta Sette Ponti is a distinguished Tuscan red blend, renowned for its depth and elegance. This wine is typically crafted from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, expressing the full potential of international grape varieties on Tuscan soil. The 2016 vintage enjoyed a warm, balanced growing season, resulting in concentrated fruit, fine tannins and excellent ageing potential. Vinification combines modern techniques with traditional care—grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, then fermented in temperature-controlled tanks before ageing in French oak barriques for around 18 months, imparting refined notes of spice and vanilla.
Tuscany, located in Central Italy, is famous worldwide for both its centuries-old wine culture and its rolling landscapes. The region’s terroir is shaped by a Mediterranean climate—warm days, cool nights, and breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea—paired with diverse soils, notably rich in clay, limestone and gravel. This confluence of climatic and geological factors yields wines of remarkable structure and complexity. Historically, Tuscany is the cradle of great red wines, and the emergence of "Super Tuscans" like Oreno in the late 20th century marked a significant evolution: winemakers embraced non-native varieties alongside Sangiovese, elevating the region's international status.
Oreno is a bold, complex wine with aromas of blackberries, currants, blueberry compote, violets and hints of tobacco, chocolate and spice. Its full-bodied palate, velvety tannins and lingering finish make it an excellent match for rich cuisine. Traditional Tuscan dishes such as wild boar ragù with pappardelle or bistecca alla fiorentina will complement the wine’s intensity. Alternatively, try it with roasted lamb, beef fillet with truffle sauce, or mature cheeses like aged pecorino.
For optimal enjoyment, serve Oreno 2016 at 16-18°C. Decant the wine for at least one hour prior to serving, as this will allow the bouquet and texture to fully develop. This wine is drinking beautifully now but will also reward further aging in your cellar.
