The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino from Conti Costanti showcases the remarkable qualities that have made this estate one of the most respected in Tuscany. Made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso—locally known as Brunello—this wine is produced according to strict DOCG regulations. The 2018 vintage experienced a cooler and slightly wetter growing season, leading to a wine of finesse, elegance and upward freshness rather than sheer power. The grapes are hand-harvested from the estate’s south-facing vineyards set on the distinctive galestro soils, a stony marl providing excellent drainage and mineral complexity. Careful vinification is carried out in stainless steel before maturation in large Slavonian and smaller tonneaux oak casks for around three years, allowing the Sangiovese’s classic structure and complexity to unfold.
Brunello di Montalcino hails from one of Tuscany’s most revered and historic wine regions. This area’s soils, rich in clay, limestone and galestro, combine with a Mediterranean climate tempered by altitude and marine breezes, giving the wines distinctive elegance and age-worthiness. The tradition of quality red wine here dates back to the late 19th century, and Brunello di Montalcino enjoys a global reputation for producing Italy’s finest expressions of Sangiovese.
This wine’s firm tannins and bright acidity make it especially versatile at the table. It is a natural partner for classic Tuscan fare such as bistecca alla fiorentina (grilled beef steak), or hearty dishes of wild boar ragù and pecorino toscano cheese. It will also shine alongside roasted game birds or earthy mushroom risotto, the wine’s savoury notes and subtle wild cherry fruit harmonising with both meaty and umami elements.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the Brunello di Montalcino Conti Costanti 2018 for at least an hour before serving. Ideal drinking temperature is 16-18°C, which enhances the expression of red fruit, spice and floral nuances while maintaining the wine’s structure and vibrancy.
