Viniou Reviews

The Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Cuvée Fieramonte 2015 is a remarkable expression of the classic Amarone style from the heart of the Veneto region. Crafted primarily from the traditional grape varieties of Corvina, Rondinella, and occasionally small portions of other indigenous grapes, this wine undergoes the appassimento process: after harvest, the grapes are dried on mats for several months to concentrate their flavours and sugars, resulting in a powerful and complex dry red. The Fieramonte cuvée is Allegrini’s prestige bottling, made from selected plots and aged extensively in oak, giving the wine notable depth, elegant tannins, and a lush, full body. The 2015 vintage is renowned for its favourable growing conditions, yielding a wine with layers of dense black cherry, dried fig, exotic spice, dark chocolate, and tobacco, balanced by a vibrant acidity that promises excellent ageing potential.

The Valpolicella region, nestled in the hills north of Verona, benefits from a unique microclimate, thanks to its proximity to Lake Garda and the sheltering Lessini mountains. The soils here are a mixture of limestone, clay, and volcanic origin, giving the wines their characteristic structure and complexity. Valpolicella has a rich winemaking history tracing back to Roman times, with Amarone emerging as its most celebrated style for its opulence and intricate production.

Given the wine's intensity and complexity, it pairs beautifully with robust dishes. Classic pairings include braised beef with polenta or slow-cooked lamb shank, as well as mature hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Grana Padano. Regional specialities like risotto all'Amarone or Monte Veronese cheese are also superb choices. For a gourmet touch, consider dark chocolate desserts, which complement the wine's dried fruit and cocoa notes.

To fully appreciate all the nuances of the Allegrini Cuvée Fieramonte 2015, serve it at 18-20°C. Decanting for at least two hours before serving will allow the wine to open up, revealing its aromatic complexity and velvety texture. Enjoy this exceptional Amarone now or cellar it carefully for a decade or more to explore its evolving layers.
