Viniou Reviews

Domaine Roulot’s 2015 Bourgogne Blanc is an exemplary expression of Chardonnay from one of the most esteemed producers in Burgundy. This cuvée comes from carefully tended parcels outside the village of Meursault, crafted with the same meticulous attention as the domaine’s more prestigious bottlings. The 2015 vintage was remarkable for its warm and dry conditions, resulting in wines with ripe fruit, great balance, and generous texture. The wine undergoes barrel fermentation and ageing—typically with a judicious use of new oak—enhancing its complexity with subtle hints of vanilla and toast. Expect aromatics of white flower, citrus, green apple and hazelnut, complemented by a defined minerality and a lively, persistent finish.

Burgundy, and particularly the Côte de Beaune from where Domaine Roulot sources its fruit, is shaped by its distinctive limestone and clay soils, which impart a refined minerality to its Chardonnays. The region enjoys a semi-continental climate with warm summers and cool nights—ideal for preserving acidity and allowing grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness. With centuries of winemaking history, Burgundy is revered for its commitment to terroir, and Domaine Roulot stands out for its precision and respect for the vineyard.

As for food pairings, this Bourgogne Blanc’s balance of freshness and body makes it extraordinarily versatile. Classically, it will shine alongside dishes such as roast chicken with tarragon, seared scallops in butter, or a delicate fillet of white fish. Regional specialities like poulet de Bresse à la crème or Burgundy snails in garlic butter echo the wine’s finesse and subtlety. Soft cheeses, such as Comté or goat’s cheese, are also excellent partners.

To fully appreciate its aromatic expression and tension, serve this white Burgundy at a cool 10-12°C. A brief decanting can help reveal its layers, particularly as it evolves in the glass. This 2015 is beginning to approach its maturity but will continue to develop over the next few years if you wish to cellar it further.
