Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 hails from one of the most prestigious appellations within Bordeaux, the Pauillac AOC, on the Left Bank of the Gironde estuary. Traditionally, Pauillac reds are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, often blended with Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc, yielding wines of deep colour, firm structure, and pronounced longevity. The 2022 vintage in Médoc was marked by a warm, dry growing season, resulting in optimally ripe grapes with concentrated flavours and robust tannins. Vinification at Grand-Puy-Lacoste typically includes meticulous selection, temperature-controlled fermentation, and significant ageing in French oak barrels, which enhances the wine’s complexity and age-worthiness.
Pauillac lies at the heart of Bordeaux’s Médoc region, famed for its gravelly soils that provide excellent drainage and heat retention, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon. The proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary moderates temperature extremes, protecting the vines from frost and encouraging slow, even ripening. This unique environment, combined with centuries of winemaking tradition dating back to the 18th century, has established Pauillac as the source of some of the world’s finest and most collectable red wines.
Given the wine’s firm tannic backbone, intense cassis, black cherry, cedar, and pencil-lead aromas—a classic Pauillac profile—it pairs beautifully with robust dishes. Traditional Bordeaux fare such as entrecôte à la bordelaise (ribeye steak with a red wine and shallot sauce) or roast lamb with rosemary are particularly well suited. Game birds, duck breast, and hearty mushroom dishes with a jus reduction can also harmonise elegantly with the wine's depth and structure.
Allow Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2022 to breathe for several hours before serving to unlock its aromatic potential. Decanting is strongly recommended, especially in its youth. Serve at 16-18°C to fully express its bouquet and refined tannins. This wine has excellent cellaring potential and will evolve beautifully for decades if preserved in the right conditions.
