Viniou Reviews

Château Beaumont 2017, hailing from the esteemed Haut-Médoc AOC within Bordeaux, is a classic red blend emblematic of the Left Bank. Like many wines from this region, it predominantly features Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with possible touches of Petit Verdot. The 2017 vintage was marked by early frost, resulting in lower yields but promoting concentration and freshness. Vinification at Château Beaumont balances traditional methods with modern precision: hand harvesting, careful sorting, and a judicious use of oak for maturation, yielding a wine of fine structure and restrained elegance.

The Médoc subregion is famed for its well-drained gravel soils laid down by the Gironde estuary, which are ideal for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon. The region enjoys a temperate maritime climate, moderated by the river and Atlantic breezes, ensuring slow, even ripening of the grapes. Bordeaux’s complex patchwork of terroirs and its centuries-old winemaking heritage have shaped its reputation for producing some of the world’s most age-worthy and refined reds.

For food pairings, Château Beaumont 2017 is an excellent partner for traditional Bordelais cuisine. Its structured tannins and fresh acidity pair beautifully with roasted lamb—especially lamb rack with garlic and herbs—as well as grilled entrecôte, duck breast, or game dishes like venison. Classic French sides such as ratatouille or wild mushroom fricassée will complement the wine’s earthy undertones. Mature cheeses, notably Comté or aged Tomme de Savoie, also harmonise well.

To fully appreciate its nuanced bouquet of blackcurrant, cedar, and a hint of tobacco, decant the wine for at least an hour before serving. Ideal serving temperature is between 16-18°C. The 2017 is enjoyable now for its approachability but will benefit from a few more years in the cellar, promising increased complexity and integration.
