Château Siaurac 2024 from Lalande-de-Pomerol is a red Bordeaux wine that encapsulates the finesse of the Right Bank. The blend is classically Merlot-dominant, often supported by Cabernet Franc and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon, highlighting the plush fruit character and supple tannins characteristic of the appellation. The 2024 vintage is still very young, promising vibrant, juicy red and black fruit notes such as ripe plum, cherry, and blackberry, complemented by a subtle backdrop of sweet spice and gentle oak from moderate barrel ageing. The youthful structure suggests freshness and energy, while careful vinification ensures the balance and elegance so prized in the region.
Lalande-de-Pomerol, located just north of the more prestigious Pomerol, shares many of its neighbour’s attributes, both in terms of soil and stylistic approach. The terroir consists mainly of gravel and sand over clay subsoils, which contribute to the wines’ roundness and early approachability with a slightly firmer structure compared to Pomerol proper. The temperate oceanic climate, moderated by the proximity to the Isle river, provides consistent ripening conditions and lends a vivid aromatic profile to the wines. This appellation is known for producing excellent value reds that retain the silkiness and depth for which the Right Bank is famous.
For food pairings, Château Siaurac’s approachable yet structured style is beautifully matched with a variety of dishes. Classic Bordeaux cuisine such as roast lamb with herbs, duck breast, or even a mushroom risotto would highlight the wine’s subtle earthiness and palate-coating fruit. For a more regional accent, try it with entrecôte à la bordelaise or confit de canard. A cheese board with aged Comté or Saint-Nectaire would also be an excellent partner.
This wine should be served at a temperature of 16-18°C to allow its bouquet and texture to fully express themselves. If enjoying while young, a short decanting will help to aerate and soften the tannins, revealing more of the charming fruit and spice that define Château Siaurac 2024.
