S de Siran 2016 hails from the historic Château Siran estate, one of the prestigious properties of the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux’s Médoc region. This cuvée represents the château’s second wine, crafted with a blend typically dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and, to a lesser extent, Petit Verdot. The 2016 vintage is particularly celebrated in Bordeaux, offering a classic expression marked by well-structured tannins, ripe dark fruit aromas, and subtle notes of spice and cedar. The vinification at Château Siran is meticulous: grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled vats and subsequent aging in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, lending refinement and complexity.
Margaux, one of the most renowned communes of Bordeaux, is cherished for producing some of the world’s most elegant and perfumed red wines. Set on the gravelly soils of the Médoc, Margaux’s vineyards benefit from excellent drainage and optimal sun exposure. The region enjoys a temperate maritime climate, moderated by the proximity of the Gironde estuary, which helps to alleviate extremes of temperature and contributes to the long and even ripening of the grapes. The history of fine wine production in Margaux stretches back centuries, with its signature style typified by finesse, aromatic complexity, and a silky texture.
S de Siran 2016’s supple tannins and bright acidity make it a versatile companion for food. Traditional Bordeaux pairings such as roasted rack of lamb with herbs or entrecôte à la bordelaise will showcase its depth and structure. For a regional touch, try it with duck confit or wild mushroom fricassée. Its balance and approachability also suit hard cheeses like aged Comté or Ossau-Iraty.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve at 16-18°C to allow its bouquet of red and black fruits, florals, and subtle oak to open fully on the palate. This vintage can be enjoyed now for its freshness or cellared for further evolution.
