Clos Cibonne’s Cuvée Rosé Tradition Cru Classé 2022 is an exceptional expression of Provence, offering a refined and distinctive take on the traditional Provençal rosé. The wine is produced predominantly from the rare Tibouren grape, sometimes blended with a small proportion of Grenache. Tibouren is celebrated for its ability to produce rosés of both delicacy and surprising complexity, and Clos Cibonne is one of the grape’s most dedicated ambassadors. The 2022 vintage benefited from ideal Provençal conditions: strong Mediterranean sunshine, tempered by cooling sea breezes and occasional Mistral winds, all of which allowed for an excellent balance between freshness and aromatic depth. Vinification at Clos Cibonne follows traditional methods, with fermentation taking place in 100-year-old foudres under a thin veil of flor—a technique that adds subtle oxidative notes and complexity, setting it apart from the majority of modern rosés.
The Provence region itself is synonymous with world-class rosé production, and its global reputation owes much to its unique terroir. The soils around Clos Cibonne are primarily schist and clay, offering exceptional drainage and forcing the vines to dig deep for nutrients, which in turn concentrates the flavours of the fruit. The microclimate—thanks to its proximity to the Mediterranean—ensures mild winters and warm, dry summers, encouraging a slow and steady ripening process. This combination of elements allows for the crafting of elegant, aromatic wines with refreshing acidity and subtle saline or herbal character, reflective of the surrounding garrigue and sea air.
This cuvée’s expressive palate of wild strawberries, white peach, dried herbs, and delicate spice pairs beautifully with an array of dishes. Classic Provençal fare such as ratatouille, bouillabaisse, or salade niçoise will highlight its herbal nuances and bright acidity. It also excels alongside grilled Mediterranean fish, shellfish, or even slightly spicy Asian dishes, where its complexity and freshness offer a perfect foil.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this rosé well-chilled, ideally between 10 and 12°C. It can be enjoyed young for its fruit vibrancy, yet the structure and ageing under flor mean it will also develop more savoury notes with a year or two of cellaring. Pour gently into tulip-shaped glasses to allow full appreciation of its subtle aromas and elegant texture.
