Schloss Gobelsburg’s Ried Lamm 1ÖTW 2021, from the Kamptal DAC in Niederösterreich, Austria, is an outstanding dry white wine. Crafted in one of the most revered vineyards of the estate, Ried Lamm sits at the foot of the Heiligenstein and benefits from deep loess soils that naturally retain water, allowing for a steady ripening of the grapes. This cuvée is almost always pure Grüner Veltliner, which is celebrated for its complexity, spicy structure, and expressive minerality. The 2021 vintage is characterised by vibrant freshness, precise fruit, and remarkable tension, owing to a cooler growing season. Winemaking at Schloss Gobelsburg is respectful of tradition; after hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo gentle pressing, fermentation in large, old wooden casks, and a period of maturation on the fine lees, enhancing texture and aromatic finesse.
Kamptal, nestled along the Kamp River northwest of Vienna, is a region with a proud winemaking heritage. Its climate harmoniously combines the warmth of Pannonian influences and the cooling breezes of the Waldviertel hills, promoting both ripe fruit character and refined acidity in the grapes. The region is particularly renowned for its loess and primary rock soils, which yield wines with both power and minerality. Kamptal’s historical devotion to Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, along with a string of esteemed estates such as Schloss Gobelsburg, has firmly established it among Austria's top white wine appellations.
Ried Lamm Grüner Veltliner shines at the table, pairing brilliantly with a spectrum of dishes. Its weight and nuanced spiciness make it a fantastic match for classic Austrian fare such as Wiener Schnitzel or Tafelspitz. It also complements roasted poultry, veal with cream sauces, pan-fried river fish, or vegetable risotto. For an international touch, it works beautifully with sushi, mild Thai curries, or dishes with ginger and lemongrass.
To fully appreciate its aromatic depth and creamy texture, this wine should be served lightly chilled, ideally between 11-13°C. Decanting for 30 minutes will allow it to express its full bouquet and complexity. Enjoy in large white wine glasses to best savour its expressive palate.
