Luc Massy's Cuvée Chemin de Fer Dézaley Grand Cru 2023 is an exceptional Swiss white wine, hailing from the prestigious slopes of the Vaud region. Crafted predominantly from Chasselas, this dry white expresses the best of its Grand Cru terroir. Vintage 2023 benefited from a warm yet balanced growing season, ensuring perfect ripeness while preserving freshness and minerality. The hand-harvested grapes from the famed terraces of Dézaley are gently pressed and typically fermented in steel tanks to retain clarity and precision, highlighting stone fruit, delicate florals, and an elegant, saline mineral finish.
The Vaud region, nestled along the northern shore of Lake Geneva, is Switzerland’s viticultural heartland. Dézaley, in particular, is known for its dramatic, south-facing slopes built on ancient glacial terraces with steep gradients that bask in generous sunlight and are further warmed by the lake’s reflection. The unique terroir features marl and limestone soils, imparting vibrant minerality and finesse to the wines. With a winemaking tradition dating back to the 12th century when Cistercian monks began cultivating these slopes, the region’s legacy and expertise are embodied in each bottle, with Chasselas being its undisputed star.
This Chemin de Fer is a wonderful food wine and particularly shines with freshwater fish such as perch or trout, whether poached or lightly grilled with herbs. It elegantly accompanies regional favourites like fondue or raclette, as its crisp profile cuts perfectly through the richness of melted Swiss cheese. It also complements lighter dishes such as asparagus, freshwater prawns, or seasonal vegetable quiches, letting its subtle fruity notes and vibrant minerality shine.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine chilled between 8 and 10°C. Pour into tulip-shaped glasses and allow it a few moments to open up: you’ll be rewarded with delicate aromas and a refreshingly pure, savoury palate that beautifully reflects the unique character of Dézaley Grand Cru.
