Sei Solo 2020 is an expressive red wine from the prestigious Ribera del Duero DO, situated in Spain’s Castille and León region. Crafted from old-vine Tempranillo—locally known as Tinto Fino—this vintage stands out for its purity and finesse, as Sei Solo is renowned for its minimal intervention approach. The 2020 vintage benefitted from a relatively mild and balanced growing season, which helped to preserve both freshness and depth in the wine. Grapes are hand-harvested from select plots with sandy loam soils, and traditional vinification is practised: gentle extraction techniques, native yeast fermentation, and ageing in carefully chosen French oak barrels that respect the integrity of the fruit. The resulting wine displays an intense yet elegant profile, with layers of ripe red and black fruit, floral notes, subtle spices, fine tannins, and a persistent, harmonious finish.
Ribera del Duero is a jewel in northern Spain’s winemaking crown. The region benefits from high altitude vineyards, often located between 750m and 900m above sea level, where hot summer days are tempered by cool nights, promoting slow, even ripening of the grapes. Soils are diverse—mainly clay, limestone, and sand—which add complexity and minerality to the wines. Historically, Ribera del Duero has produced wine since Roman times, but it is in the last few decades that it has gained international acclaim, particularly for its robust yet refined reds made predominantly from Tempranillo.
When it comes to food pairing, Sei Solo 2020 thrives alongside richly flavoured dishes. Classic Castilian roast lamb (lechazo asado) is an outstanding choice, as the wine’s depth beautifully complements the savoury, succulent meat. Alternatively, beef ribeye, aged Manchego cheese, or mushroom risotto are also excellent partners. For a regional touch, try it with morcilla (Spanish black pudding) or slow-cooked oxtail stew.
For optimal enjoyment, serve Sei Solo 2020 at a temperature of 16-18°C. Decanting for an hour prior to serving will help unlock its aromatic complexity. This wine can be savoured now for its vibrant fruit, but will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 8 to 12 years.
