Masi’s Campofiorin, vintage 2015, is an iconic red wine from the Veneto region in Italy. Created as a proprietary blend by the renowned Masi estate, Campofiorin is primarily composed of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes – a classic mix found in Valpolicella wines. The 2015 vintage benefited from good weather conditions, yielding ripe yet balanced fruit. Campofiorin is notable for its unique vinification technique: after a first fermentation, a portion of partially dried grapes is added, which starts a second fermentation (the "ripasso" method). This process results in a wine with enhanced richness, depth, and complexity, resembling a junior Amarone with concentrated flavours.
Veneto is a prestigious winemaking region in north-eastern Italy, bordered by the Alps to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the east. Its climate oscillates between continental and Mediterranean, offering warm summers and mild winters, which are ideal for ripening red grapes while preserving freshness. The soils in this region are varied but tend towards alluvial, limestone and clay components, providing the necessary structure to support the complexity of wines like Campofiorin. The wine heritage here is marked by centuries of tradition, with Valpolicella and Amarone being among the region’s celebrated styles.
With its generous body, velvety tannins and notes of dark cherry, plum, spice, and a hint of cocoa, Campofiorin 2015 is wonderfully versatile at the table. It pairs excellently with Venetian specialities such as braised beef cheek, risotto all’Amarone, and duck ragù pappardelle. It also complements mature cheeses, lamb chops, grilled steak, and mushroom-based dishes. The wine’s intensity and texture handle flavourful, slow-cooked fare with ease.
For optimal enjoyment, serve Campofiorin 2015 slightly below room temperature, between 16 and 18°C. Decanting for about 30 minutes will help the wine open up, revealing its full aromatic potential and silky texture. Enjoy it now or cellar for a few more years to allow for further evolution.
