Produttori del Barbaresco 2020 is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piemonte’s most respected cooperative wineries. This Barbaresco DOC is crafted solely from Nebbiolo grapes, harvested from selected vineyards around the historic village of Barbaresco. The 2020 vintage presents the trademark characteristics of Nebbiolo—intense aromatics of dried rose, red cherry, subtle tar, and hints of violets—wrapped in supple tannins and a lively acidity. The wine undergoes traditional vinification, with fermentation in stainless steel before an extended maturation in large oak casks, which helps preserve the purity of fruit while adding layers of complexity and structure.
The Barbaresco region, nestled in Piemonte in north-western Italy, enjoys a continental climate with marked temperature variations between day and night, which is particularly beneficial for the slow ripening of Nebbiolo. The soils comprise calcareous marl mixed with clay, lending both elegance and firm structure to the wines. Barbaresco’s winemaking history is rich, and Produttori del Barbaresco itself was founded in 1958, fostering a collective approach to quality and innovation. Compared to its neighbour Barolo, Barbaresco tends to be a bit more graceful and slightly more approachable in its youth, due to both terroir and winemaking traditions.
For food pairings, this Barbaresco is ideally matched with traditional Piemontese dishes such as brasato al Barolo (beef braised in red wine), tajarin al tartufo (fine egg pasta with truffle), or agnolotti del plin (stuffed pasta). It also complements roasted game, wild mushroom risotto, and mature cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano. The wine’s structure and aromatic profile make it versatile enough to elevate more contemporary cuisine, including duck or roasted lamb.
For optimal tasting, decant the wine for at least an hour before serving to allow its bouquet and flavours to fully emerge. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C to enhance both its aromatic complexity and palate structure. This 2020 Barbaresco promises fine drinking now and outstanding potential for cellaring over the coming decade.
