Viniou Reviews

Giodo Brunello di Montalcino 2015 is a striking example of Tuscan winemaking at its finest. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, this Brunello comes from one of the most prestigious appellations in Italy. The 2015 vintage was heralded for its excellent growing conditions, resulting in balanced, powerful wines with wonderful ageing potential. After careful selection, the grapes from Giodo’s estate are fermented and matured according to traditional Brunello practices, with several months spent in large oak casks to add structure and complexity. The wine displays a deep ruby hue and an aromatic bouquet bursting with notes of wild cherry, dried herbs, leather, and a touch of spice and balsam. On the palate, it offers remarkable balance between firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and concentrated fruit. The long, harmonious finish is a testament to its craftsmanship and terroir.

The region of Montalcino, located south of Siena in Tuscany, is renowned for its idyllic rolling hills and optimal conditions for Sangiovese cultivation. The soils here are varied, with a mix of galestro and clay that lends both elegance and power to the wines. The Mediterranean climate is marked by hot, dry summers and mild winters, with abundant sunshine and cooling breezes from the nearby Tyrrhenian coast. This environment, combined with centuries of winemaking history, allows Brunello di Montalcino to express a unique sense of place and exceptional longevity.

Due to its depth and refined tannic structure, Giodo's 2015 Brunello pairs beautifully with rich, savoury dishes. Classic Tuscan fare such as pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar ragu), bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak), or roasted lamb with herbs highlight its robust character. It also stands up well to aged cheeses like Pecorino Toscano and earthy mushroom dishes.

For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for at least an hour before serving to allow its aromas to fully open up. Serve slightly below room temperature, ideally between 17-18°C. This will showcase the wine’s finesse and complexity, making it a remarkable centrepiece for a special meal or celebration.
