Cecchi’s Chianti Classico DOCG Storia di Famiglia 2022 is a red wine that beautifully embodies the spirit of Tuscany. Crafted from primarily Sangiovese grapes, with possible small additions of local varietals as is traditional in Chianti Classico, this vintage offers a vibrant ruby color and an aromatic bouquet of ripe cherry, crushed violet, and hints of Mediterranean herbs. The 2022 growing season in Tuscany was marked by warm temperatures and modest rainfall, contributing to grapes of excellent ripeness and concentration. The wine is typically vinified in stainless steel to preserve freshness, followed by maturation in large oak casks, which imparts subtle spicy notes and helps structure the wine.
The Chianti Classico heartland stretches between Florence and Siena, a storied region distinguished by its undulating hills, stony galestro and alberese soils, and a favorable microclimate tempered by breezes from the Apennines. This terroir, coupled with centuries-old winemaking tradition—Chianti Classico being one of Italy’s earliest regulated wine areas—makes for wines of great finesse and personality, combining acidity, freshness, and elegance with vibrant fruit character.
For food pairings, the Cecchi Storia di Famiglia 2022 works exceptionally well with Tuscan classics such as bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak), wild boar ragù, or pappardelle al cinghiale. The wine’s bright acidity and supple tannins also make it an excellent companion for antipasti of cured meats and aged Pecorino cheese, as well as tomato-based pasta dishes and roasted poultry.
To fully appreciate the wine’s aromatic complexity and supple texture, serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C. Decanting for around 30 minutes prior to serving can help open up its bouquet, especially in the early years. This Chianti Classico is equally delightful now for its youthful fruit and vibrancy, yet can be cellared for up to five years to develop further nuances.
