Viniou Reviews

Le Miccine Chianti Classico Riserva 2020 is a fine expression of Tuscan winemaking, crafted from the renowned Sangiovese grape variety, often complemented by small additions of local varietals like Canaiolo or Colorino. This Riserva, meaning it has undergone extended ageing—typically a minimum of two years, including time in oak barrels—shows a deep ruby colour and an enticing bouquet of ripe cherries, violets, subtle tobacco, and delicate spice. The 2020 vintage offers ripe fruit notes with a balanced acidity, firm yet integrated tannins, and a lingering, elegant finish. The wine is the result of meticulous vineyard practices and careful vinification dedicated to expressing both the character of the grape and the terroir.

Chianti Classico sits in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence and Siena. The region is distinguished by its rolling hills, a patchwork of vineyards and olive groves, and a unique climate: warm, sunlit days with cooler nights, which is ideal for preserving Sangiovese’s freshness and aromatic complexity. The soils are predominantly galestro and alberese—rocky, limestone-based mixtures—which help provide structure and minerality to the wines. The Chianti region carries centuries of vinous tradition, having been officially delimited in 1716, making it one of the world’s oldest protected wine-growing areas. Chianti Classico DOCG denotes a guarantee of origin and quality.

A wine of this stature is perfectly suited to classic Tuscan dishes and traditional Italian cuisine. Its lively acidity and savoury character pair beautifully with dishes such as bistecca alla fiorentina (Tuscan-style grilled steak), ragù di cinghiale (wild boar ragù) served over pappardelle, or hearty roasted meats. For a more casual pairing, try it with mature Pecorino Toscano cheese or tomato-based pasta dishes, where the wine’s structure holds up beautifully against rich, tangy flavours.

To fully appreciate Le Miccine Chianti Classico Riserva 2020, serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C. Decanting for 30 minutes will help open up its aromatic profile, allowing you to savour its full complexity and depth.
