Produttori del Barbaresco's 2017 Cuvée Rabajà is an excellent embodiment of Piedmontese viticulture, offering both complexity and finesse. This Barbaresco is crafted exclusively from Nebbiolo, a noble grape known for its intense aromas, firm tannins and exceptional ability to age. The Rabajà vineyard is celebrated for its ideal south-west exposure and mixed soils of clay and limestone, which together yield wines of great structure and aromatic depth. The 2017 vintage reflects a warmer growing season, giving the wine richness, concentration and an approachable fruit profile, while still maintaining the classic elegance and spiced character Nebbiolo is renowned for. Ageing in large oak casks tempers the grape's robust tannins and allows for slow, complex development.
Barbaresco is located in the heart of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy. The region is defined by its rolling hills, cool continental climate, and morning fog that helps moderate ripening. The soils, abundant in limestone and clay, are key to Nebbiolo's expression and ability to balance power with grace. Over centuries, Barbaresco has earned a reputation for producing wines of remarkable ageworthiness, generally softer and more accessible than Barolo, its neighbour, but never lacking in structure or depth.
This Rabajà is a superb partner for dishes that can stand up to its intensity and perfume. Traditional pairings include braised meats such as veal or beef, wild mushroom risotto, and richly sauced game. Truffle-based pasta dishes, so typical of Piedmont, are also excellent companions, as are aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano-Reggiano. The wine’s earthy notes and lifted acidity will harmonise beautifully with autumnal flavours and roasted root vegetables as well.
For an optimal tasting experience, decanting is advisable to encourage the wine to open up and fully express its aromatic bouquet. Serve at 16-18°C to allow the complex aromas of dried rose, cherry, liquorice and tar to shine, and enjoy the unfolding layers of texture and flavour as the wine breathes.
