Moroder’s Cuvée Dorico 2018 hails from the prestigious Conero DOCG appellation, nestled in Italy’s Marche region. Crafted predominantly from Montepulciano grapes, often blended with a touch of Sangiovese, this red wine reflects both varietal purity and the artisanal touch of the Moroder estate. The 2018 vintage saw a well-balanced growing season, providing enologists with perfectly ripened clusters for carefully monitored fermentation. Ageing, frequently in oak barrels, enhances the wine’s structure while contributing subtle spicy undertones to its naturally bold, dark-fruited profile. Expect deep ruby hues, aromas of ripe black cherries, Mediterranean herbs, hints of tobacco, and a palate combining generous fruit with supple tannins and a lingering finish.
The Marche region, stretching along Italy’s Adriatic coast, is marked by its rolling hills and cool maritime influence. The Conero area, in particular, benefits from the limestone and clay soils of Mount Conero, lending both freshness and minerality to the wines. The unique microclimate—where sea breezes moderate summer heat—produces reds that balance richness with finesse. Historically, winemaking here dates back to Roman times, yet the recognition of Conero wines for their quality is a more recent phenomenon, culminating in the elevation to DOCG status. Today, the area stands out for its robust yet elegant Montepulciano-based reds.
Cuvée Dorico's ample structure finds perfect harmony with hearty dishes. Traditional regional pairings include Vincisgrassi, Marche’s layered meat and mushroom lasagne, or roast rack of lamb with aromatic herbs. The wine also complements game birds, matured pecorino cheese, or slow-braised beef with olives (Stracotto all’Oliva Ascolana). Its depth and savoury profile make it a fine companion for both rich Italian cuisine and classic British roast meats.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the Dorico at least one hour before serving, to fully release its aromatic complexity. Serve at 16–18°C, slightly cooler than room temperature, to best appreciate its balance of fruit, freshness, and structure. With careful cellaring, this wine will continue to evolve beautifully over the next decade.
