Pol Roger’s Cuvée Réserve Brut is a flagship non-vintage Champagne that beautifully exemplifies the house style. Crafted using the traditional method, this wine is a blend of the classic Champagne grape varieties — Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay — sourced from some of the region’s best vineyards across the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. The non-vintage style allows the cellar master to combine multiple harvests to ensure consistency and balance, with the reserve wines providing additional complexity and depth. Following the méthode traditionnelle, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle, giving rise to its delicate, persistent mousse and fine bubbles. Maturation on the lees, often for over three years, brings subtle notes of brioche and toast, while the palate remains fresh with citrus, white flowers and hints of apple.
Champagne itself is situated in the cool northern reaches of France, where the marginal climate is perfect for producing wines of great finesse and elegance. The chalky soils, which are a defining feature of the terroir, contribute markedly to the vibrancy and minerality apparent in the finished wine. The region’s long history, dating back to Roman times, has seen it become world renowned for sparkling wines that symbolise celebration and sophistication, with houses like Pol Roger playing a prominent role in that reputation.
Pol Roger Brut Réserve is exceptionally versatile for food pairings. Its freshness and subtle complexity make it an excellent match for shellfish such as oysters or scallops, delicate fish dishes or even classic Champagne accompaniments like gougères. For a more traditional approach, consider pairing it with regional specialities like jambon de Reims or a tarte au maroilles, which will highlight both the wine’s vibrant acidity and its creamy texture.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this Champagne well-chilled, ideally between 8-10°C. Allow the bottle to rest upright in the fridge for a few hours before opening, and pour into flutes to best showcase its elegant effervescence and aromatic profile.
