Viniou Reviews

The 2010 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru “Cuvée Les Demoiselles” from Domaine Louis Jadot is an exceptional white Burgundy, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, as is traditional for the appellation. This cuvée comes from a celebrated parcel known as “Les Demoiselles,” held in high regard for its finesse and elegance. The 2010 vintage is particularly distinguished, producing wines of great purity, vibrant energy, and remarkable ageing potential thanks to a cool and balanced growing season. Fermentation and ageing take place in French oak barrels, a proportion of which are new, lending subtle toasted and spicy nuances while respecting the delicate complexity of the terroir. In the glass, the wine typically displays a pale gold colour with shimmering highlights. The nose is incredibly refined, offering layers of white flowers, citrus, and stone fruits interwoven with notes of hazelnut, brioche, and a signature mineral tension. On the palate, it is both powerful and precise, with a creamy texture, lively acidity, remarkable length, and a persistent, saline finish.

Chevalier-Montrachet is one of the jewels of the Côte de Beaune, nestled just above the famed Le Montrachet vineyard. The region’s limestone-rich soils and ideal exposure offer perfect drainage and an optimal microclimate for producing world-class Chardonnay. The heritage of white winemaking in this corner of Burgundy is centuries old, with Chevalier-Montrachet often cited as among the finest expressions of Chardonnay anywhere in the world. The terroir imparts both weight and finesse, balancing ripe fruit with chiselled minerality, a hallmark of this storied vineyard.

This Grand Cru white is a perfect companion for refined dishes. Classic pairings include lobster or scallops with a delicate beurre blanc, turbot or Dover sole prepared simply, or a rich poultry dish like Bresse chicken with morels and a creamy sauce. For a regional touch, try pairing it with escargots de Bourgogne or a delicate veal blanquette. Aged cheeses such as Comté or aged Gruyère also work beautifully with the wine’s breadth and structure.

Serve this Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru slightly cool at 12-14°C. Decanting for 30 minutes before serving allows the complex aromas to unfurl and provides the full experience of its aromatic depth. Enjoy it now with a brief aeration, or cellar for another 5-10 years for even greater maturity.
