Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru Les Chenevottes 2017 is a superb white Burgundy, crafted in one of the region’s most respected appellations. This wine originates from a Premier Cru parcel within Chassagne-Montrachet, renowned for producing some of the world’s finest Chardonnay-based wines. The vineyard site, Les Chenevottes, is characterised by its proximity to the prestigious Le Montrachet and its well-drained, limestone-rich soils. The 2017 vintage in Burgundy was shaped by a relatively cool growing season with generous sunshine, resulting in balanced wines with vibrant acidity and aromatic clarity. In the cellar, Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is revered for his precise, minimal-intervention winemaking, often using large oak barrels for ageing, which contribute subtle texture and nuance while allowing the terroir to take centre stage.

Chassagne-Montrachet lies in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, a region long celebrated for its exquisite white wines. The local terroir features a mosaic of marly limestone and clay soils that impart both minerality and structure to the wines produced here. The region enjoys a continental climate, with significant diurnal temperature shifts that help preserve freshness and complexity. Historically, Chassagne-Montrachet was as well known for its reds as its whites, but over the past century, the fame of its expressive, refined whites has grown internationally.

Mature cheeses such as Comté, or even a delicate goat’s cheese, would also be excellent accompaniments.

For optimal tasting, serve lightly chilled at around 11-13°C. Decanting for thirty minutes can help the wine reveal its full bouquet, especially in its youth. This bottle is likely to evolve beautifully in the cellar, but it offers plenty of pleasure now with careful aeration.
