Tasting note – Santenay Rouge, Domaine Demangeot
Appearance
Attractive ruby colour of medium intensity, bright and limpid. The rim still displays violet hues, indicating a youthful wine full of energy. The legs are regular, reflecting good concentration.
Nose
The initial nose immediately offers clear aromas of morello cherry and fresh raspberry. As it opens up, the bouquet gains depth, with notes of blackberry, blackcurrant and peony emerging. A subtle, finely integrated oak brings touches of vanilla, liquorice and a hint of smokiness, enriching the complexity.
Palate
The attack is supple and direct, marked by delightful fruity freshness. The mid-palate reveals an elegant structure, with fine, perfectly ripe tannins. The texture is velvety, well balanced between vibrant fruit and an acidity that gives lift to the wine. The finish is persistent (around 7 caudalies), lingering on notes of black cherry and a subtle minerality.
Conclusion
A typical Santenay rouge, marrying the indulgence of Pinot Noir with the discipline of a Côte de Beaune terroir. Elegant and harmonious, it can be enjoyed now for its sparkling fruit, but also possesses ageing potential of 5 to 7 years depending on the vintage.
