Viniou Reviews

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's Meursault Les Poruzots 2015 Premier Cru is a remarkable white Burgundy, crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from one of Meursault's most esteemed Premier Cru vineyards. The 2015 vintage is known for its richness and expressive character, as the warm growing season resulted in wines of notable concentration, ripeness, and balance. Les Poruzots is renowned for producing wines that display both power and a nuanced minerality, owing to the site's clay-limestone soils, which impart a signature vibrancy. Colin-Morey's minimalist approach—native yeast fermentation, ageing on lees in mostly used oak barrels, limited intervention—allows the terroir to take centre stage, emphasising texture, tension, and purity.

Meursault sits at the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy, an area globally renowned for its exceptional white wines. The region's mosaic of terroirs, with soils varying from deep clay to stony limestone, underpins the diversity and complexity of the wines. The climate here is semi-continental, bringing warm summers that favour full phenolic ripeness while cool nights help preserve acidity. Meursault's winemaking history stretches back centuries, and the village is often associated with rich, nutty, and textural Chardonnays that exhibit both depth and length, making it a benchmark for Chardonnay worldwide.

This wine's luxurious texture, marked acidity, and refined oak usage make it a superb partner for dishes such as lobster in beurre blanc, scallops seared with a touch of lemon, or classic poulet de Bresse à la crème. Regional pairings like jambon persillé or a creamy comté cheese accentuate the wine's layered complexity and subtle mineral notes.

For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for 30 minutes to allow its aromas to unfurl, then serve it slightly chilled—ideally between 11-13°C. This will highlight its depth, fresh citrus and stone fruit notes, and allow the subtle hazelnut and flinty undertones to shine.
