Viniou Reviews

Château Tanesse 2016 hails from the Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation, located within the expansive Bordeaux region, specifically in the Entre-deux-Mers area. This wine, a red Bordeaux, is most likely crafted from a blend typical of the region, potentially featuring Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and perhaps a touch of Cabernet Franc. The vintage 2016 was generally regarded as excellent across Bordeaux, offering wines of fine structure, balance and expressive fruit, with well-integrated tannins and a classic, refined Bordeaux character. Vinification in this part of Bordeaux tends to favour a careful extraction and ageing in either stainless steel or oak barrels, allowing the wine’s fruit, freshness and subtle complexity to emerge.

The Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux subregion is found on the right bank of the Garonne River. Vines here benefit from a temperate, oceanic climate, with mild winters and warm summers, moderated by the nearby river. Gravel, clay and limestone soils lend both structure and freshness to the wines, enabling the grapes to ripen steadily and develop nuanced aromas. Historically, the area has long been celebrated for producing robust yet approachable reds, often with soft tannins and a succulent fruit character, making them enjoyable both in their youth and after a few years in the bottle.

This style of Bordeaux red pairs beautifully with classic regional dishes such as duck confit or entrecôte de boeuf with bordelaise sauce. The wine’s ripe fruit and moderate tannins will also complement hearty dishes like lamb shank, roast poultry, grilled mushrooms, or an assortment of matured cheeses such as Comté or Cantal. Its well-balanced structure and elegant palate suit it particularly well to rustic French cuisine.

To enjoy Château Tanesse 2016 at its best, serve it slightly below room temperature, ideally between 16 and 18°C. Allowing the wine to breathe for an hour before serving will also help to reveal its full spectrum of aromas and flavours.
