Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine 2010 is the second wine of Château Prieuré-Lichine, one of Margaux’s respected Grand Cru Classé estates. This wine is a classic Left Bank Bordeaux blend, typically dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with a smaller percentage of Petit Verdot and sometimes Cabernet Franc, reflecting the hallmark elegance and finesse of the Margaux appellation. The 2010 vintage stands out due to excellent climatic conditions – a cool spring, hot and dry summer, and a perfectly timed autumn – enabling the grapes to reach optimal ripeness with good tannic structure and freshness. Vinification involves meticulous sorting of the grapes, fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and ageing in French oak barrels (some new, some used), which bestows complexity and subtle spice.
The Margaux appellation is synonymous with grace and aromatic delicacy, traits derived from its unique terroir: warm gravelly soils that promote excellent drainage and heat retention, favouring slow, thorough maturation of the fruit. While Bordeaux as a whole is famous for robust blends, Margaux excels in expressing softer tannins, refined texture, and alluring perfume – a legacy shaped over centuries by its proximity to the Gironde estuary and its heritage as one of the oldest winegrowing regions in France.
When pairing food with this wine, look for dishes that complement its polished structure and expressive bouquet. Roast lamb with rosemary, filet de boeuf, or a classic duck breast in red wine sauce are excellent choices. If you wish to explore regional harmony, try entrecôte à la bordelaise or a rich mushroom fricassée. Hard cheeses such as aged Comté or Tomme de Savoie also make a delightful companion.
To fully appreciate Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine 2010, serve it at 16-18°C. Decanting for at least one hour will help to open up its bouquet of blackcurrant, cedar, and subtle spices. Enjoy in Bordeaux glasses to enhance its aromatic complexity and silkiness on the palate. This wine is ready to drink but can age gracefully for several more years if stored in proper cellar conditions.
