Viniou Reviews

Château La Vue 2018 is a red wine from the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, nestled in the heart of Bordeaux’s right bank. This cuvée, typical of the region, is likely a blend dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and possibly touches of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux was excellent, marked by a hot, dry growing season that yielded opulent and structured wines. Traditional vinification with careful extraction and ageing in French oak barrels provides added complexity and a harmonious integration of tannins. Expect notes of ripe black fruit—plum, blackberry, and black cherry—layered with hints of liquorice, sweet spices, and a subtle toasted undertone, alongside the velvety texture characteristic of well-made Saint-Émilion.

Saint-Émilion itself is one of Bordeaux’s most historic and celebrated regions, recognised both for its UNESCO-listed medieval village and for producing some of the world’s most renowned Merlot-based wines. The area benefits from a temperate maritime climate, moderated by the nearby Dordogne River, and enjoys diverse soils ranging from limestone to clay and gravel. This patchwork of terroirs imparts finesse, freshness, and age-worthiness to its wines, while the long history of viticulture—dating back over a thousand years—enriches the winemaking tradition.

For food pairings, Château La Vue 2018’s generous fruit and supple structure shine alongside classic French cuisine. Traditional dishes like duck breast with cherry sauce, beef fillet with wild mushroom jus, or even a bordelaise-style lamb work beautifully. For a regional touch, consider a Saint-Émilion specialty such as entrecôte à la bordelaise or cheeses like Saint-Nectaire and aged Comté.

To enjoy this wine at its best, serve at 16-18°C after decanting for an hour or two, which will allow the bouquet to open and soften the tannins. This wine can be enjoyed now for its youthful vibrancy or cellared for another five to ten years for greater complexity.
