Château Franc-Maillet 2005 from Pomerol is a classic Bordeaux red, crafted predominantly from Merlot, which thrives on the right bank’s clay-rich soils, often blended with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and sometimes Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2005 vintage stands out as one of the century’s finest, marked by ideal weather conditions that allowed for perfectly ripened grapes and optimal phenolic maturity. Winemaking at Château Franc-Maillet is traditional, with gentle extraction and thoughtful oak ageing, resulting in a wine of notable richness, depth, and finesse. Older Pomerols also enhance hard cheeses, particularly aged Comté or Cantal.
