Bremerton Wines’ Cuvée Shiraz Old Adam 2015 from Langhorne Creek is a superb expression of South Australian Shiraz. This vintage showcases all the hallmarks of top-tier Shiraz: a deep, inky colour, aromas of ripe blackberry, plum and dark cherry accented by nuances of spicy oak, chocolate and pepper. The 2015 growing season allowed for optimal ripening, resulting in a wine of both power and elegance. The Old Adam bottling uses some of the estate’s oldest vine fruit, hand-picked and carefully selected. Maturation in a mix of French and American oak barriques for around 20 months brings a plush texture and layers of complexity with fine, supple tannins. The resulting wine is structured yet accessible, designed to age gracefully while offering immense pleasure in its youth.
Langhorne Creek, situated southeast of Adelaide, is renowned for its fertile alluvial soils and reliable Lake Alexandrina breezes, which moderate temperatures through the growing season. The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate: warm days assure full flavour ripening, while cool evenings preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. Langhorne Creek’s viticultural heritage dates to the 1850s, contributing significantly to Australia’s red wine reputation. Shiraz thrives here, consistently producing concentrated yet refined reds with distinctive regional signatures.
With its concentration and bold personality, this Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye steak, lamb shank slow-cooked with rosemary, or a pepper-crusted venison. Regional Australian dishes such as kangaroo fillet with bush tomato chutney or rich beef pies would also complement the wine’s depth. For cheese lovers, try pairing with matured cheddar or Manchego.
To appreciate the full expression of this wine, decant for at least an hour before serving. Ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C. This allows the bouquet to unfold and the tannins to soften, revealing layers of fruit, spice, and oak. Enjoy now or cellar for up to a decade to capture its evolving nuances.
