Red Grape Variety

Bekari is an indigenous red grape variety predominantly cultivated in the mountainous regions of western Georgia, particularly in the Racha-Lechkhumi and Imereti areas. Known for its deep ruby hue, Bekari produces wines that boast an expressive aromatic profile featuring vibrant notes of wild cherries, ripe red plums, and subtle undertones of forest floor and spice. On the palate, Bekari wines are medium-bodied, exhibiting a fine balance between lively acidity and soft, rounded tannins. They often display flavours of juicy red berries, blackcurrant, and a delicate hint of earthiness, leading to a fresh, lingering finish.

Bekari is typically crafted into both dry and semi-sweet wines, demonstrating versatility across lighter, elegant styles and richer, more structured expressions. Some winemakers also employ traditional Georgian qvevri methods, imparting unique texture and complexity.

These wines pair excellently with a variety of dishes, such as grilled lamb, roast game, and spiced poultry, as well as hard cheeses and mushroom-based cuisine. Bekari’s freshness and moderate structure also make it a compelling partner for Georgian specialities like khachapuri and pkhali, enhancing both traditional and international dining experiences.
