Barolo Arborina Nadia Curto 2017 is a distinguished red wine hailing from the renowned Piedmont region in northwestern Italy. Crafted predominantly from the Nebbiolo grape, this single-vineyard Barolo exemplifies the classic qualities for which the appellation is celebrated. The 2017 vintage is notable for its warm and dry growing season, which resulted in ripe, expressive fruit character with balanced acidity and noticeably refined tannins. Nadia Curto’s winemaking tends to blend tradition with a touch of innovation, allowing for lengthy maceration and careful ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels, bringing out the alluring aromas of rose petals, tar, wild cherry, truffle and subtle spice typical of superior Barolo.
The Piedmont region is famed for its rolling hills, morning fog and ancient soils, composed largely of marl and clay, providing Nebbiolo with ideal conditions for complexity and longevity. The unique microclimate around the Arborina cru in La Morra, in particular, helps to retain elegance and aromatic purity in the wines. Barolo as a region has a rich history, often referred to as the “king of wines and the wine of kings,” with documented production dating back to the 19th century and a continuous focus on quality and typicity.
Pairing this Barolo with food is a true pleasure. Its structure and intensity are wonderfully matched with rich dishes such as braised beef cheek, wild mushroom risotto, or traditional Piemontese tajarin pasta with white truffle. Local cheeses like Castelmagno or aged Parmigiano-Reggiano also make an excellent accompaniment, as do slow-cooked game or rack of lamb with rosemary. The wine’s depth enhances earthy and umami-driven flavours, creating a harmonious dining experience.
For optimal enjoyment, uncork Barolo Arborina Nadia Curto 2017 at least an hour in advance to allow it to breathe. Serve it at a temperature of 16-18°C in large Burgundy glasses to fully appreciate its bouquet and developing complexity. This vintage can be enjoyed now but will reward several more years of cellaring for those who prefer secondary and tertiary nuances.
