Le Rondini Langhe Nebbiolo 2021 presents a classical portrait of Northern Italian winemaking, showcasing the pure expression of the Nebbiolo grape. This red wine is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, a variety renowned for its beguiling perfume, structure, and age-worthiness. Harvested in 2021, a vintage noted in the Langhe for its balance and delicacy, the wine offers a youthful vibrancy with a core of red cherry, rose petal, violet, and subtle hints of tobacco and spice. Langhe Nebbiolo is often vinified in a manner that emphasises fruit purity and finesse, with shorter macerations and judicious use of oak to preserve aromatic freshness and underlying minerality.
The Langhe region, nestled in Piedmont in north-western Italy, enjoys a temperate climate with marked differences between day and night, favouring aromatic complexity and vibrant acidity in the grapes. The soils are predominantly calcareous clay and marl, lending structure and longevity to the wines. Historically, the region is famed for Barolo and Barbaresco, but the Langhe DOC allows producers to craft more approachable Nebbiolos — often from younger vines or sites not classified for Barolo/Barbaresco — that offer pleasure in their youth while echoing the majestic signature of Piedmont’s top terroirs.
Pairing Le Rondini Langhe Nebbiolo with food is a delight, as its bright acidity and supple tannins complement a range of dishes. It marries beautifully with traditional Piedmontese fare such as tajarin pasta with a rich ragu, braised veal, or vitello tonnato. Further afield, it is an excellent partner to roasted game birds, duck, grilled lamb, or mature cheeses such as Taleggio and Parmigiano Reggiano. Its aromatic character can also handle truffle-infused recipes, a Piedmontese specialty.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at 16-18°C, ideally after a short decanting (30 minutes) to allow the aromas to open. Whilst approachable now, it can evolve delightfully over the next few years, gaining further complexity and silkiness.
