Vietti’s Perbacco 2019 is an expressive red wine crafted predominantly from the Nebbiolo grape, the noble variety behind Barolo and Barbaresco. Born in the Langhe DOC appellation of Piedmont, this cuvée is renowned for punching above its designation, sometimes regarded as a “baby Barolo” given the quality of fruit and winemaking. The 2019 vintage offers a particularly pure expression, with grapes sourced from select sites across the Langhe, some even from Barolo vineyards, and vinified with meticulous attention to detail. Fermentation is followed by ageing in a mix of stainless steel, large oak and barriques, creating a wine that marries vibrant Nebbiolo fruit with subtle structure and complexity. In the glass, Perbacco 2019 seduces with aromas of rose petals, red cherry, wild strawberry, and hints of tobacco, underpinned by fine tannins and lively acidity.
The Langhe region, nestled in the heart of Piedmont, is a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its rolling hills, patchwork vineyards, and centuries-old viticultural tradition. The climate is continental, marked by crisp winters and sun-drenched summers, while fog—a signature of the region—contributes to the slow and even ripening of Nebbiolo. The soils are a mosaic of clay, limestone, and marl, imparting both aromatic finesse and an intense mineral streak to the region’s wines. Historically, Langhe has been a cradle of innovation and tradition, where small family estates and iconic producers like Vietti uphold the region’s global reputation for excellence.
With its structure and aromatic clarity, Perbacco 2019 excels alongside classic Piedmontese dishes such as tajarin al ragù (fine egg pasta with meat sauce), vitello tonnato, braised beef or game, or a wild mushroom risotto. Its natural affinity for earthy ingredients extends to truffle-based cuisine and aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano. Given the wine’s finesse and freshness, it also pairs beautifully with lamb or duck prepared with simple herbal notes.
To enjoy this wine at its best, serve it at a temperature between 16-18°C after allowing it to breathe in a decanter for at least an hour. This will allow the fruit, floral notes, and subtle tannins to fully unfold, offering an elegant and memorable tasting experience.
