Oddero Barolo 2020 is a distinguished red wine from the celebrated Piedmont region of north-western Italy, produced exclusively from the Nebbiolo grape – a varietal renowned for its complexity and age-worthiness. The 2020 vintage reflects the unique terroir of Barolo, sourced from a mosaic of vineyards characterised by calcareous clay soils and optimal south-facing slopes. Vinification at Oddero involves a careful selection of Nebbiolo, extended maceration for maximum extraction, and traditional ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, which enhances the wine’s structure while respecting its delicate aromatics.

The Barolo denomination is deeply rooted in Piedmont’s vinous heritage. The region experiences a continental climate with marked seasonal differences: hot, dry summers and cold winters, often with fog that shrouds the rolling Langhe hills in autumn, contributing to Nebbiolo’s long, slow ripening process. This unique climatic interplay, combined with ancient marine-origin soils, imparts finesse, bright acidity, and a profound tannic backbone. Barolo itself has often been dubbed the “King of Wines and Wine of Kings,” celebrated since the 19th century for its noble expression.

With its classic notes of wild cherry, rose petal, tar, truffle, and savoury spices, Oddero Barolo 2020 is a versatile gastronomic companion. Its firm tannins and vivid acidity pair beautifully with rich regional dishes such as brasato al Barolo (beef braised in Barolo), tajarin al tartufo (egg-rich pasta with truffles), and aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano. It also complements game birds, veal with porcini mushrooms, and earthy dishes featuring root vegetables or lentils.

To appreciate the full spectrum of aromas and flavours, open and decant the wine one to two hours before serving. Serve at a temperature of 16–18°C in large glasses to allow the bouquet to unfold. Though the 2020 vintage already offers approachability, cellaring for a further five to ten years will reveal greater nuance and depth.
