The Produttori del Barbaresco "Cuvée Muncagota" 2015 is a superb example of classic Nebbiolo from one of the most respected cooperatives in Piedmont. Produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the renowned Muncagota single vineyard, this Barbaresco reveals all the varietal hallmarks with great finesse: a crystalline ruby colour, aromas of wild cherry, rose petal, liquorice and tobacco, and a textured, precise palate. The 2015 vintage enjoyed a warm and balanced growing season, resulting in expressive fruit and fine, integrated tannins. Ageing typically takes place in large oak botti, allowing the wine to evolve gracefully while preserving its purity and authenticity.
Barbaresco DOC is an iconic appellation nestled in the hills of northwestern Italy, just a short distance from Barolo. The climate benefits from a continental influence, with marked temperature swings between day and night, and ample sunshine during the growing season. This encourages slow grape ripening and the development of complex aromatics. The soils are primarily calcareous marl, which imparts elegance and minerality to the wines, distinguishing them from their often more robust Barolo counterparts. Barbaresco has a centuries-old winemaking tradition, and the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative plays a pivotal role in preserving its legacy and raising the region's global profile.
When it comes to food pairings, Barbaresco’s finely structured tannins and vibrant acidity make it an excellent partner for a range of dishes. It is especially well-suited to classic Piedmontese specialities like tajarin al tartufo (egg yolk noodles with truffle), brasato al Barbaresco (beef braised in Barbaresco wine), or a simple vitello tonnato. Aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano also make for a perfect complement.
To experience this wine at its best, serve it at 16-18°C. Decanting for an hour will allow the bouquet and texture to fully express themselves. This Barbaresco can be enjoyed now or aged further for additional complexity.
