Paitin’s Barbaresco DOCG Cuvée Sorì Paitin 2021 is a distinguished red wine crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, the emblematic grape of the region. The 2021 vintage shows a harmonious marriage of freshness and complexity, thanks to a balanced year with favourable ripening conditions. The Sorì Paitin cru is noted for its calcareous-clay soils, which help shape Nebbiolo’s signature tension, aromatic clarity, and elegant tannins. After a careful manual harvest, vinification usually involves traditional techniques such as extended maceration and maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving both the varietal purity and the vineyard’s unique expression.
Barbaresco, with its neighbouring Barolo, is one of the jewels of Piedmont. Benefiting from a continental climate influenced by the Tanaro River and temperated by autumnal mists, the region allows Nebbiolo to ripen fully while retaining acidity and aromatic lift. The soils, predominantly calcareous marl, impart a fine structure and remarkable ageing potential. Since receiving DOCG status in 1980, Barbaresco’s fame has grown for producing Nebbiolo wines with both grace and intensity, often more approachable in youth than their Barolo cousins, yet equally nuanced.
This wine is an outstanding partner for classic Piedmontese cuisine such as tajarin al tartufo (egg pasta with truffles) or brasato al Barbaresco (beef braised in Barbaresco). Its aromatic profile of rose petal, wild berries, dried herbs, and a subtle smoky undertone pairs equally well with roasted duck, grilled lamb, mushroom risotto, or even aged cheeses like Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano.
For an optimal tasting experience, decant the wine for at least one hour to allow its bouquet to blossom and tannins to soften. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C. This will reveal the full complexity of the Cuvée Sorì Paitin, enhancing both its floral and savoury nuances. Enjoy now for its vibrant fruit, or cellar for 8-15 years to witness its evolution.
