Val di Suga’s Brunello di Montalcino DOC Vigna del Lago 2010 is a classic demonstration of Tuscan excellence. Produced exclusively from the Sangiovese grape, here expressing its full depth thanks to the unique microclimate of the Vigna del Lago parcel. The 2010 vintage has gained wide acclaim for its balance and longevity. Aged traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks for extended periods, this wine develops a complex bouquet of dark cherry, dried herbs, leather and subtle balsamic hints, underpinned by finely-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity that promises remarkable aging potential.
Montalcino, in southern Tuscany, benefits from a unique terroir shaped by rolling hills, well-drained clay-limestone soils, and significant differences in elevation. The Mediterranean climate, with hot summers tempered by coastal breezes and cool nights, allows a slow, even ripening of Sangiovese. This combination yields Brunello famous for power, elegance, and a rare aromatic purity. The DOC’s origins date back to the late 19th century, but it is since the 1980s that Brunello di Montalcino has established itself as one of Italy’s most prestigious wines, beloved by connoisseurs the world over.
For food pairing, the structure and depth of this Brunello are best highlighted with equally robust dishes. Consider pairing it with traditional Tuscan cuisine such as bistecca alla fiorentina (Florentine steak), wild boar ragù over pappardelle, or slow-cooked lamb with rosemary and garlic. Mature cheeses like Pecorino Toscano or aged Parmigiano-Reggiano will also complement its earthy and savoury nuances. If you wish to venture further, roast game birds or mushroom risotto would be excellent partners.
For optimal appreciation, decant the wine for at least an hour to let it breathe and soften. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C. This will accentuate the aromatic complexity and lend clarity to both palate and aroma, ensuring a compelling tasting experience.
