Val delle Corti's 2019 Chianti Classico is a quintessential Tuscan red, presenting all the hallmarks you’d expect from an authentic interpretation of the region. Crafted predominantly from Sangiovese, occasionally complemented by a touch of Canaiolo or Colorino, this wine boasts a vibrant ruby colour and a fragrant bouquet. The vintage 2019 in Tuscany saw optimal conditions with a moderately warm growing season and well-timed rains, resulting in grapes with excellent balance between freshness, ripeness, and structure. Ageing typically occurs in large slavonian oak casks, which lends subtle notes of spice and allows the wine’s bright red cherry, violet, and earthy nuances to shine, all supported by fine, integrated tannins and refreshing acidity.
The Chianti Classico zone lies in the heart of Tuscany, between Florence and Siena, and sits on rolling hills with varied soils, notably galestro (schist clay) and alberese (limestone). Combined with an altitudinal range between 250 and 600 metres, the vineyards benefit from warm days, cool nights, and good drainage, all conducive to nuance and finesse in the resulting wines. The area's long winemaking history stretches back to the Middle Ages, earning its DOCG status in 1984, and its icon—the black rooster—signifies the region’s quality commitment.
This Chianti Classico complements a range of Italian and Tuscan dishes. Its medium body and lively acidity make it a superb companion to classic pasta dishes such as tagliatelle al ragù, roasted or grilled meats like bistecca alla fiorentina, and earthy preparations featuring porcini or black truffle. It equally pairs well with hard, aged cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano, or a hearty ribollita, the Tuscan bread and vegetable soup.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at 16-18°C. Should you wish to appreciate its aromatic complexity, decanting for 30 minutes prior to serving is worthwhile. While delicious now, the 2019 vintage has the potential to age gracefully for several more years if cellared properly.
