The Castello del Trebbio Chianti Cuvée Reserva 2020 is a red wine crafted in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. Primarily made from Sangiovese grapes, possibly blended with small percentages of traditional varieties such as Canaiolo or Colorino, this cuvée is certified organic, reflecting both respect for the environment and an emphasis on natural winemaking practices. The 2020 vintage, marked by relatively balanced weather patterns, allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness, resulting in expressive aromas and a well-integrated structure. Ageing in oak barrels enhances the depth and complexity, lending notes of cherry, violet, subtle tobacco and a hint of spice on the finish, all enveloped in silky tannins and a lively acidity typical of Chianti Reservas.
Tuscany’s Chianti appellation is renowned for its rolling hills and idyllic landscapes, but it is the unique terroir that makes its wines stand out. The region benefits from a warm, temperate climate with hot, dry summers and cool, breezy nights—an ideal environment for Sangiovese. The soils are primarily composed of limestone (albarese) and clay (galestro), imparting minerality and freshness to the wines. Chianti itself has a rich history, being one of the oldest officially defined wine regions in the world, with a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages and closely linked to Italian cultural heritage.
In terms of food pairings, this Chianti Reserva is perfectly suited to classic Tuscan fare. Consider serving it alongside a rich wild boar ragù with pappardelle, roasted lamb with rosemary, or a traditional Florentine steak. It also pairs beautifully with aged pecorino cheese, hearty tomato-based pasta dishes, or rustic grilled vegetables, highlighting both the wine’s structure and its elegant acidity.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for about an hour before serving to allow it to fully express its aromatic complexity. The recommended serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C, which will showcase its vibrant fruit, balanced structure and lingering finish.
