Produttori di Barbaresco 2020 is a classic expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most prestigious appellations. Nebbiolo, the native grape of this region, is renowned for its complex aromatics and the ability to offer both power and finesse. The 2020 vintage benefited from a steady growing season, resulting in balanced ripeness and notable acidity. Fermentation is traditionally conducted in stainless steel, followed by ageing in large oak casks, which lends the wine its characteristic structure and elegance without overpowering its aromatic purity. The resulting wine is garnet in colour, with expressive aromas of rose petal, violet, red cherry, and delicate hints of truffle and tobacco. The palate is refined, with fine but grippy tannins and a lingering finish marked by notes of wild herbs and dried fruit.
Barbaresco comes from the rolling hills of the Langhe in Piedmont, north-west Italy. This region is distinguished by its calcareous clay soils and a distinctive microclimate moderated by the Tanaro river. The Langhe hills have a rich winemaking heritage, and Barbaresco itself was first designated as a DOC in 1966 and quickly gained DOCG status, underscoring its quality. Compared to its neighbour Barolo, Barbaresco wines often show a touch more finesse and are approachable slightly earlier, though they age beautifully for many years. The cool continental climate, combined with the fog that often blankets the region during autumn harvest, gives Nebbiolo its signature aromatic complexity and acidity.
For food pairings, Barbaresco’s tannic structure and subtle earthiness make it a superb match for classic Piedmontese dishes like tajarin pasta with truffle, brasato al Barolo (wine-braised beef), or a rich mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with game, aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno, and roast lamb.
To appreciate its aromatic nuances and depth, serve this Barbaresco at a temperature between 16-18°C. Decanting for 1-2 hours will help open up the wine, especially while still young, allowing the bouquet and palate to fully evolve in your glass.
