Lucien Le Moine’s 2020 Bourgogne Rouge is an elegant expression of Burgundy’s renowned Pinot Noir grape. This regional appellation draws from a careful selection of sites across Burgundy, and Lucien Le Moine is especially known for their meticulous approach—hand-harvested fruit, natural fermentation, and traditional ageing in French oak barrels. The 2020 vintage benefited from an early, warm growth season, resulting in wines that are deeply coloured with vibrant, ripe fruit and fine, structured tannins. In the glass, you can expect aromas of ripe red cherries, raspberries, and a hint of wild strawberry complemented by delicate floral notes and subtle spice from oak ageing. The palate is supple yet lively, reflective of classic Bourgogne Rouge, with juicy red fruit, a gentle earthiness, and a refreshing acidity that provides excellent balance.
The Burgundy region, or Bourgogne, is one of the most famous wine-producing areas in the world, celebrated for its complex soils known as “terroirs” and its long history of viticulture dating back to Roman times. The region enjoys a temperate continental climate characterised by cool winters and warm summers, factors that encourage refined aromatics and acidity in the wines, especially for Pinot Noir. The patchwork of limestone and clay soils imparts characteristic minerality, contributing to the wine’s finesse and length.
Given its classic structure and vibrant fruit, this Bourgogne Rouge is highly versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with traditional Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin or duck with cherries, but also complements roast chicken, grilled pork, or earthy mushroom-based dishes like a mushroom risotto. Soft cheeses, especially Brie or Tomme de Bourgogne, enhance its subtle complexity.
For the optimal experience, serve this red slightly cool, ideally between 15-16°C. Decanting for 30 minutes will help the wine open up and reveal its aromatic nuances. This bottle is delightful now for its freshness, but it also possesses enough structure to evolve gracefully over the next few years in your cellar.
