Crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, this cuvée is drawn from the renowned “Les Santenots” Premier Cru vineyard, an area celebrated for producing elegant, velvety red wines. The 2018 vintage was marked by a warm, balanced growing season, delivering both ripeness and finesse. Careful vinification showcases the purity of fruit and precise structure Volnay is known for, with minimal intervention allowing the nuanced character of the terroir to shine through.

Situated in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, the village of Volnay occupies a prime location on gentle east-facing slopes with varied clay-limestone soils. These soils contribute both vibrancy and a silken texture to the wines, while the semi-continental climate—with moderate rainfall and good sun exposure—encourages slow, even ripening. Volnay has a long tradition of viticulture, documented since medieval times, and is often associated with some of the most refined and feminine Pinot Noir expressions in the region. “Les Santenots” itself is particularly famed for its balance of depth and finesse.

Given the wine’s delicate tannins, red fruit notes and perfumed bouquet, it pairs beautifully with roast poultry such as duck breast with cherries, or a classic coq au vin. Dishes featuring earthy mushrooms or truffle risotto will highlight its subtle complexity. For a regional touch, try it alongside oeufs en meurette or a creamy mushroom vol-au-vent. The wine’s fresh acidity and moderate alcohol also mean it will work well with soft cheeses like Brillat-Savarin or Chaource.

To fully appreciate the aromatic complexity and silky palate of this Volnay Premier Cru, serve it slightly cool—ideally at around 15–16°C.
